You Can Go Home Again

Despite what Thomas Wolfe said, you can go home again. And sometimes, it’s the very best thing to do.

After leaving the fold four years ago, I’ve returned to Rodman Publishing as editor of Cosmetic Packaging & Design for almost three months. So far, it’s one of the best career decisions I’ve made.

I began my publishing life as an associate editor for Happi magazine in 1989. I learned how to gather information and write articles for the cosmetic and personal care industry.

In 1990, I moved within Rodman to another magazine and continued there as editor for another eight years. Then, drawn by the siren’s song of New York City, I left for a position at a weekly retail newspaper. But when the opportunity came to return to my first publishing home, I was delighted to say “yes.”

This Winter 2001 issue, is the last quarterly installment, for, as of 2002, Cosmetic Packaging & Design becomes a bi-monthly. With increased frequency, we hope to make Cosmetic Packaging & Design an even better magazine. We welcome your suggestions and comments as we seek to provide the best, most thorough coverage in the industry.

This issue has given me a chance to rediscover parts of personal care packaging: fragrance at mass, bath and body products and tube technology, not to mention the opportunity to travel to Monaco for Luxe Pack.

Next month, we’ll announce our Company of the Year: Excellence in Packaging winner and look into other important facets of packaging.

It’s also been almost three months since the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. The initial shock has worn off as Americans begin to come to terms with increased security, anxiety and sadness.

The best advice I’ve heard was President Bush’s to get back to living our lives—personal and professional. No one knows what America will face in 2002, but it is sure that people will still need and enjoy the products of the personal care industry. And, Cosmetic Packaging & Design will be here to report on it.

Correction: O. Berk’s Aluminum Screw Cap Cans

In the article, Home Is Where the Fragrance Is!, Fall issue of Cosmetic Packaging & Design, on page 53, the application of O. Berk’s Aluminum Screw Cap Cans was misidentified. O. Berk’s Aluminum Screw Cap Cans are tall, granular fillable cans that range in size from 2.6- to 21.7-oz.
